Our Mission
Prayer Hospitality Justice
Along with our common faith, relationships are the core of our community life. We have a strong history of outreach to the community and our members care deeply about hospitality, social justice and the environment. We believe in the power of communities united in prayer, faith and action through the transforming love of Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform ourselves and the world in a life-giving way.
What do we provide?
As well as the day-to-day care for each other, which happens informally, there are many activities for welcoming and caring in our community. At St Alban's have a particular focus on social justice, hospitality and meeting needs in the local and broader community.
Our parish offers pastoral care, English Conversation groups, refugee support, home visiting & communion, social dinners, music events, fortnightly Bible Study as well as Lenten and Advent studies. We provide food items for Woden Community Services "Little Pantry".
St Alban’s is a welcoming and intimate space for small community groups to gather and meet.
Baptisms
Baptism is not a naming ceremony but is the Sacrament of the church that marks the beginning of our Christian journey. Baptism is sometimes called Christening which literally means "to make Christian". People of any age may be Baptised in the Anglican Church, although adults are usually Baptised and Confirmed at the same time as the promises made are the same for both sacraments. Parents often have their children baptised as an expression of their own faith in Christ and their desire to raise their children in the values, faith and community of the Church. We welcome anyone desiring baptism for themselves or for their children. Baptisms may occur in any of our worship services or at another time that is convenient for you and for the church. Please contact the Rector to discuss your Baptism needs.
Admission to Holy Communion & Confirmation
Christians become members of the Anglican church through their Baptism and once Baptised, being part of Christ’s family, we are able to share in the Family meal – Holy Communion when we desire. Some children and young people like to have some preparation for receiving Holy Communion and then have a special celebration Sunday where the church celebrates their “Admission to Holy Communion”. If you know of any young people interested in participating in preparation for receiving Holy Communion please give their details to the Rector. Confirmation is the adult affirmation of our Baptismal promises made by our parents and Godparents and is a sacrament performed by a Bishop. If you are interested in being prepared for Confirmation, or are aware of any member of our Parish Family who desires to be confirmed, please give details to the Rector.
Marriages
We would love to celebrate the gift of love with you, and are happy to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage for couples. We have a "Boutique", intimate church, that is ideal for small weddings. If you desire to have God at the centre of your marriage but would like to be married outdoors, or at another venue, the Rector is also able to assist with this and officiate at your wedding, with the Bishop's permission. In the Anglican Church, if you have been divorced and would like to remarry, this is possible with the Bishop's permission. Please contact the Rector for more information.
St Alban's is committed to Safe Church Ministry.
